Structure Power to Care is a private practice operating as a business (Judy Burns trading as Power to Care). We receive our income from fees paid by our clients. We do not receive any funding, financial grants or assistance.

Appointments under the PPPR Act including Enduring Powers of Attorney are appointments that are personal to Judy. While tasks can be delegated, responsibility cannot. Judy is ultimately responsible for all appointments.

Some Court Orders expire on a given date, others can only be discharged by the Family Court. Enduring Powers of Attorney can be revoked by either party at any time so long as the person is “mentally capable”.

Complaints can always be referred without cost to the Family Court. Persons subject to Court Orders can request the Family Court to review those orders at any time.
Security We have a BNZ Trust Account through which client’s money is transacted, and a Client Funds investment service. Each transaction we make involves a four person process for security.

Levels of client confidentiality and/or information sharing are contracted on a case by case basis.

Judy has regular professional supervision and as a member of the Aotearoa New Zealand Association of Social Workers (ANZASW), her practice is governed by Practice Standards and, the Association’s Code of Ethics. Practice competency has to be renewed every five years.

Financial reports prepared on behalf of clients are audited by the District Court if the assets reach the nominated threshold (over $20,000.00).

Our offices are electronically protected by Signature Security Systems.
Autonomy We can design solutions that are individualised and flexible, and undertake tasks that are outside the scope of government funded services. We are very creative with problem solving that is client focused.
Fees Our fees are less than half of those charged by our competitors such as Trustee Corporations or lawyers AND we look after you financially as well as personally (Welfare Guardian and/or Property Manager). We will fully discuss our fees with our clients at the outset. We charge on a time used basis, or a set regular fee depending on the client and the circumstances.
